Before you go ahead and have a building remodelled or demolished, you may need to check for asbestos. Asbestos is a material that was previously used in the building industry. The manufacturer of the material led to a number of ailments, including respiratory conditions that ended in fatalities.

The Primary Illnesses

The inhalation of asbestos has resulted in the development of the following primary conditions:

  • Mesothelioma
  • Asbestosis
  • Lung Cancer

Other Illnesses

Besides the above conditions, other diseases have resulted from asbestos inhalation. These conditions include the following:

  • Laryngeal cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Pleural plaques
  • Testes cancer
  • Pleural thickening

An Asbestos-based Illness

That is why asbestos surveys and removals in West Midlands are emphasized. The health concerns related to asbestos can be staggering. For example, mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the lining of the abdomen and lungs. This disease originates solely from asbestos.

How Mesothelioma Develops

When asbestos is inhaled, the fibres embed in the lung’s walls and cause cancer to develop in the pleura or lung lining. If asbestos fibres are swallowed, the particles may penetrate the bowels or stomach, thereby leading to cancer of the peritoneum (stomach lining).  No cure exists currently for mesothelioma.

A Quick and Progressive Disease after a Diagnosis Is Made

Mesothelioma is closely related to the inhalation or ingestion of amphibole (brown and blue) asbestos. This cancer, when it finally appears, is aggressive. Whilst it can take as long as 45 years to develop the cancer, death normally occurs in six to 18 months after a diagnosis is made.
